Frequently Asked Questions

What do you guys do?

We teach creative writing to middle schoolers! Twice a week, eight weeks a session, two sessions a year, all via Zoom. And the best part is… it’s free if you attend a certain number of meetings!

When do we meet?

Our meeting dates for the fall session in 2023 are projected to be on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM EST and on Thursdays at 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM EST, from September 13th/14th – October 25th/26th.

How do our meetings work?

Our individual meetings usually include a warm-up/icebreaker, a main lesson (say, for example, on rhythm in poetry) and an independent writing portion at the end, where every student is free to meet with us and discuss their recent creative writing, whether in class or out. Students join the class with the expectation that they end up with at least one long, publishable piece — we check-in consistently through the session to make sure they’re one track to meeting that goal.

How can I join?

For now, send us an email with the message, “I’d like to be placed on the mailing list.” We’ll send out signup instructions in the near future!

How can I submit something to be published?

As a student, you’ll automatically have your favorite work published — check out our Student Pieces section!

Who runs this workshop?
